City of Atlanta False Alarm Reduction Program (FARP)In an effort to improve public safety and to better allocate
resources, the City of Atlanta has enacted a series of amendments to the
existing False Alarm Ordinance. As of September 2013, all Atlanta
residents must register their alarm systems. The City's program is
coordinated by CryWolf alarm monitoring service and software company
which tracks and bills residents for false alarms. The City of Atlanta has provided four documents (see sidebar)
with information for citizens about FARP, how to register to be in
compliance, how to file a dispute, and ideas for prevention of false
alarms. Please take the time to read these documents. There is a $150 fine for not registering an alarm.
For the first false alarm activation each permit year, there is no fine, just a warning. The second false alarm will result in a $50 fine
to the homeowner. Fines escalate for each false alarm afterward. Failure to pay these fines will result in your case being sent to a collections agency. The
purpose of the ordinance is to encourage homeowners and security
companies to properly use and maintain alarm systems and to reduce or
eliminate false alarms, which unduly divert emergency services from
responding to actual criminal activity and other emergencies. If you are not registered with the City, please follow the directions below to complete the registration application:
